On Tuesday, January 4, 2011, President Obama signed into law the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA)–the most comprehensive reform of U.S. food safety laws in more than 70 years. The FSMA increases the policing powers of the federal government to monitor, track, and issue food product recalls with the goal of building a new food safety system based on prevention. Significantly, FSMA gives the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) greater authority to help ensure the safety of the U.S. Food Supply—while placing greater responsibility on food companies for the safety of their products.

Invisible Sentinel CEO Benjamin Pascal Named to “40 Under 40” by Philadelphia Business Journal

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, May 17, 2011—Benjamin Pascal, MBA, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Invisible Sentinel, has been selected as one of this year’s “40 Under 40” winners by the Philadelphia Business Journal. Invisible Sentinel is a Philadelphia-based rapid diagnostics company innovating next-generation technologies for a safer food supply.

The 40 Under 40 Awards Program recognizes 40 people, under the age of 40, who are “proven performers in their respective industries and communities,” according to the Philadelphia Business Journal. “These dynamic leaders have shaped our community in ways that have made greater Philadelphia a better place to do business and live.”

Now in its 21st year, the 40 Under 40 Awards Program is a “competitive contest that routinely attracts top-flight nominations from some of the most prestigious firms and ambitious startups in the region,” according to an article in the Philadelphia Business Journal. This year’s winners were selected from a pool of more than 300 nominations, the article said.

“I’m extremely honored to receive this award,” said Pascal. “It’s tremendously satisfying to know that the work we’re doing at Invisible Sentinel to develop technologies for a safer food supply also is helping to build a stronger Philadelphia. Invisible Sentinel has chosen to make Philadelphia its home base, and we look forward to being a contributing member of the greater Philadelphia community as we advance our technologies and grow.”

Winners of the 40 Under 40 Award are profiled in a special section of the May 13th Philadelphia Business Journal and will be honored at an Awards Banquet on May 24th at the Sheraton Society Hill in Philadelphia.
